ARCADE FIRE

Arcade Fire have taken the world of music vids to another dimension with their latest effort. 'The Wilderness Downtown' is an interactive short film created by Chris Milk which has been used to accompany the Montreal band's track, 'We Used To Wait'. It's quite an extraordinary visual experience which incorporates elements of your own childhood and uses multiple screens- to see for yourself visit The Wilderness Downtown

Brooklyn lads The Drums have also done a pretty amazing cover of 'We Used To Wait', have a listen.

SMALL BLACK

'Photojournalist' is the first single to be taken from Small Black's debut LP, 'New Chain' which drops October 26th through Jagjaguwa. The Brooklyn band have abandoned the noisier elements of their previous EP and have embraced ambient synths and a chilled sound that seems to wash over you like an ice-cream tsunami.

Wavves - "Post Acid" from GreenLabelSound on Vimeo.

Remember Encino Man, the awesome 90's movie with Brendan Fraser as a cave man and probably the best movie he's ever done?  Well, it's the inspiration behind Wavves' new clip for 'Post Acid', but instead of a cave man, they use an alien who macks on with babes and who is played by pro-skater, Spanky.
After you watch the vid you can download the track from here.

EL GUINCHO

'LM Tan Sexy' is taken from El Guincho's forthcoming new album, 'Pop Negro'. The Barcelonian will be heading our way for the Meredith Music Festival in December and hopefully playing some sideshows as well. I saw him play back in 08' when I was living in London and his live performance is nothing short of amazing, a lot of jumping around and a lot of fun, hopefully I can relive that joy at Meredith.
'Pop Negro' is out through Young Turks on September 13th

Lo-fi goodness.

W E E K E N D S

Weekends sound is pure surf-garage-psych-pop scuzz, filled with shout-sung vocals that seem to be submerged under the waves of jangled guitar. The Baltimore duo are about to release their second LP, 'Strange Cultures' which was mixed and mastered by Rob Girardi (Beach House, Double Dagger, Celebration) and it drops next month through Friends Records. You can pre-order it here.

HARD MIX

I've had Hard Mix's 'Memories' on repeat ever since hearing it for the first time a few days ago. Hard Mix is a young DJ/producer from Greenville, South Carolina who's chilled sound is made up of hazy layered elements and distorted samples. He's currently putting the finishing touches to his debut before he goes back to college, and the album should see a release towards the end of the year.

STRANGE TALK

Strange Talk are a synth-pop four piece from Melbourne who are just starting out. With only a few live shows under their belt, they're working towards recording an EP and hopefully releasing it by the end of the year. I think if Phoenix and Yeasayer had a one night stand without taking the necessary precautions, Strange Talk would be their darling lovechild.
Touring soon with Jinja Safari, you can catch them at the Northcote Social Club on September 18.

RESTLESS PEOPLE

Restless People's 'Days Of Our Lives' has been around for a while now, but now that it has it's own new vid it should get the proper recognition it deserves. Any track with rave sirens is fine by me!

P O N D

Fuck, it feels like an eternity since I last posted anything, even though it's only been a couple of weeks. I haven't been lazy or anything like that, I've just been doing a spot of road trippin', including a stop at a little festival called, Splendour In The Grass, which took place in Woodford, located about forty minutes north of Brisbane. If you went then you will know how ridiculously amazing it was, if you didn't, well that's a little bit shit isn't it?
I sort of feel out of the loop at the moment, but let's kick back into things with an act out of Perth called Pond. With a few members of Tame Impala thrown in the mix, the Western Australians are about to release their third album, 'Frond' through Hole In The Sky on September 6th. Their track, 'Annie Orangetree' is also helping me a lot with facing the reality of being back at work.
